Main Areas of Responsibility:
- Conduct foreign and domestic trademark searches, including on-line searching and working with agents, to determine availability of trademarks. Create summary reports and draft clearance opinions on a global basis.
- Prepare and file domestic and foreign trademark applications. Instruct foreign associates to initiate new filings and coordinate prosecution of applications.
- Manage process and workflow of worldwide trademark filing, prosecution, renewals and conflicts (oppositions, cancellations, infringements, UDRPs and counterfeits).
- Maintain database and docketing system, including data entry and reporting.
- Prepare/write drafts of settlement agreements, co-existence agreements, undertakings and foreign and domestic agreements.
- Review advertising, promotions and packaging to identify trademark issues.
- Review watch notices for potential conflicts, initiate oppositions against third parties' infringing marks and work with attorneys to manage trademark conflicts
Qualifications:
- BA degree
- Minimum 7-10 years of global trademark experience at both law firms and/or in-house.
- Must possess extensive knowledge of both foreign and domestic trademark law, regulations, policies and processes to prosecute trademark applications and guard against third-party infringements and counterfeits.
- Strong communication, analytical, drafting organizational and computer skills are essential
- Must possess outstanding written and verbal communication skills and detail orientation
- Must possess ability to successfully handle multiple competing priorities.
- Outstanding collaboration and relationship-building skills, as well as ability to work in a team and independently.
- Must be a self-starter with a sense of urgency, work well under pressure with tight deadlines and ability to multi-task and handle unanticipated situations effectively.
- Flexibility and willingness to work on a wide variety of matters are a must.
- Experience with copyright and/or patents is a plus
Education:
- Minimum 7-10 years of global trademark experience at both law firms and/or in-house.
